VIEWPOINT OF THE GRIMINELLA TOWER

Torre Griminella

In 2021, the viewpoint of the Griminella Tower was opened, following a collaboration agreement between the Baix Llobregat Tourism Consortium and the municipalities of the northern area for the implementation of the “Economic and Tourist Development Plan of the Northern Baix Llobregat,” within the project “Tourism Promotion Plan of the Blue Ways in Baix Llobregat.” This project aims to develop a new hiking and cycling offer around the Blue Ways, becoming an important asset to attract tourists and promote the economic growth of the region.

The tower, of Roman origin, was probably built, together with the Torreta del Clos, as a defensive structure to control and protect the Via Augusta as it passed through the Martorell Gorge, where the Devil’s Bridge was erected, and also to control the mines. The current construction dates from the medieval period.

A square-plan building can be observed, built using the technique called “opus quadratum”, constructed with limestone blocks mixed with red sandstone. The stones are arranged in horizontal courses, except at the level of the loopholes, where horizontal and vertical placement was combined to achieve a regular alignment of the openings.

The window sills are defined by vertical slabs. The east and west walls are preserved intact up to the height of the ground floor, while in the middle of the north and south walls there are large openings marking the position of the access door.

From the viewpoint of the Griminella Tower, visitors can enjoy privileged views over Martorell and the northern part of the region, reaching Montserrat.
